LA QUINTA INNS & SUITES JOINS HOBBY TOWN USA/

FREE TAMIYA CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES “SEASON 15” RACE

Glen Burnie, MD (July 17, 2009)  – As talks with city and State officials on the proposal for Baltimore Grand Prix rev up, “the area’s largest hobby entertainment source“, HobbyTown USA/Glen Burnie is poised to announce its race car roster for a uniquely different world-class motorsport competition.

The free admission Tamiya Championship Series 15th Annual Regional (Radio Control Car) Race featuring nitro engines and electric radio control vehicles on a high-speed asphalt surface will be hosted by HobbyTown USA on Sunday, July 26, 2009 with a 12:00 noon start-up at the Chesapeake Square Shopping Center parking lot, 6714 Ritchie Highway, just minutes from Inner Harbor. Other race activities will also be held during the store’s regular Saturday night event, at no cost to the public

“We are excited about the opportunity to attract hundreds of R/C car racing hobbyists, motorsport fans from across the country, and others looking for good competitive racing and free, interactive entertainment. Along with the new La Quinta Inns and Suites at 6323 Ritchie Highway for official guest lodging, a wide range of restaurants, and other local businesses serving R/C car racers and fans, our week-end motorsport program will enhance the experience for all who attend,” states event promoter Robbie Dodge, a graduate of Chesapeake High School in Pasadena and sponsored racer with a remarkable list of R/C wins. “We appreciate the assistance Tamiya America, Inc. headquarters has provided to make this competition a major success.”

At age 10, Dodge was introduced to the R/C motorsport world by his father, Jimmy Dodge who taught him the fundamentals of car assembly and driving techniques to “out run the competition”, reminiscent of the “Victory Lane” days including Robbie’s uncles, the Pasadena-based Martin brothers racing team of Mid-Atlantic fame .

Tamiya America, inc., launched in 1948 with educational wooden models, is one of the world’s three largest hobby manufacturers.  The trio, including HPI Racing and Kyosho of America, joined forces at the 2009 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach in April to increase awareness for the hobby grade radio controlled motorsport competition and entertainment.

Begun in 1994, the TCS R/C car racing series of several regional competitions across the United States, culminates with a two-day season finale held at the Tamiya America corporate headquarters in Southern California.  The North American Finals Championship crowns 3 winners that earn a trip to Japan to compete at the annual Tamiya World Championship, held in Shizuoka, Japan in November.
