Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards will host an autograph signing with former New York
Mets’ pitcher Dwight Gooden on Wednesday, June 17th, from 3:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
A first round pick by the Mets in 1982, Gooden made his major league debut in 1984 in the Houston
Astrodome at just 19 years old. He set the major league rookie record in strikeouts with a record
276 in 218 innings, earning him the nickname “Doctor K.” Gooden went 17-9 with a 2.60 ERA and
became the youngest player to ever make the All-Star Game. He capped off the season by earning
Rookie of the Year honors.
Gooden’s success continued in 1985 as he won the National League Cy Young award while leading the NL in wins (24), complete games (16), ERA (1.53) and strikeouts (268).
He spent 16 seasons in the major leagues, amassing a 194-112 record while recording 24 shutouts, 2,293 strikeouts, three All-Star appearances and a career ERA of 3.50. As a member of the New York Yankees, Gooden threw a no-hitter against Seattle on May 14, 1996 at Yankee Stadium. He pitched for three teams between 1998-2000 (Cleveland, Houston and Tampa Bay) before retiring in 2001.
An autograph fee of $29.00 will be charged for flats and baseballs, while bats, jerseys and
equipment will be $39.00. Individuals attending the autograph session will also be able to tour the
Museum that day at a reduced admission fee of $5.00 (proof of autograph required).
