On July 14, 2008, the Sgt. Randy Morris Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at the Queenstown Harbor Golf Links to benefit the family of Dr. Phillip N. Phillips.
Dr. Phillips was a beloved member of the Maryland State Police. On March 2, 2008, Dr. Phillips passed away unexpectedly after serving as a trusted physician for almost 12 years. He left behind a wife, Debora, and three daughters.
“Doc,” as he was affectionately known, played an active part in the Maryland State Police Critical Response Team. He not only offered physical assistance, he offered psychological and spiritual guidance as well. He was a full time employee of the BWI Fire and Rescue Squad where he served as the Medical Director. He was also a volunteer for the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Department. And most important, he was a loving husband, devoted father, and a friend to everyone he met.
Unfortunately, Dr. Phillips’ time served with the Maryland State Police and his military credit was not long enough. It was just one year and seven months short of 15 years required for his spouse to continue receiving a monthly benefit and health benefit.
The financial burden is especially difficult for Mrs. Phillips. She is left to care for their adult daughter with Cerebral Palsy who requires 24-hour nursing care. “Doc” gave so much to his Maryland State Police family and to his community that the organizers of the Sgt. Randy Morris Memorial Golf Tournament chose the Phillips family as recipients of this year’s proceeds.
