Cason Arms Apartments Grand Opening

Baltimore City Deputy Mayor Salima Marriott joins I Can’t We Can, Inc. to celebrate new housing development

(Baltimore, MD) -- On June 5th 2008, the Cason Arms Apartments will officially open to the public.  The 48-unit low income housing development located in the Park Heights Community in Baltimore City has been completely renovated.

Cason Arms Apartments, owned by the drug recovery program I Can’t We Can, Inc. (ICWC), is named for Deacon Presley Cason I, father of ICWC founder and CEO Israel Cason.  The late Deacon Cason’s drive to help his fellow man exemplifies the motive behind the redevelopment of the complex; to be a beacon of hope in the community providing I Can’t We Can alumni and City residents with affordable housing.

In 2003, ICWC moved into the complex, formerly known as Parktown Apartments.  Before then the complex was completely overrun by drug dealers whose constant threat of violence spread fear throughout the neighborhood. With the support of the Episcopal Housing Corporation and $8 million from low income tax credit partners, Cason Arms is now a lovely, fully modern, landscaped apartment complex.

Cason Arms Apartments will be leased to a mix of I Can’t We Can alumni and City residents eager to take advantage of the new apartment homes which also includes handicapped-accessible housing.  Furthermore, to illustrate the organization’s commitment to recovery above all else, many of the construction workers were ICWC clients employed by the building contractors.

Distinguished guests such as developing partners, city officials, and ICWC clients and staff will come together on Thursday, June 5th at 11:30am to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Cason Arms Apartments located at 4637 Park Heights Avenue in Baltimore City. The program will feature performances by the I Can’t We Can band and choir, remarks by public officials and dignitaries, and a ribbon cutting ceremony conducted by Deputy Mayor Salima Marriott and ICWC Executive Director Israel Cason. A VIP reception taking place in the new Cason Arms community room will immediately follow the program and ceremony.

ICWC is Baltimore’s largest residential, long-term, non-medication-assisted drug treatment program with more than 800 graduates who have completed the program. These men and women entered I Can’t We Can suffering from a deadly disease that led them into a physical, mental, economic, and spiritual state of collapse only to graduate 12 months later as reinvigorated, employed, family-centered men and women grounded in their personal and collective recovery. Israel Cason, Founder and CEO of I Can’t We Can, hosts a weekly radio show on WOLB 1010AM.
