May 2008

Dear Sir\Madam:

Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Peggy Haftl-Fanny, my father was Joseph (Joe) Haftl, singer and mandolin player for Ted Lundy and the Southern Mountain Boys, Penn Central (Bob Paisley),(Troy Spencer), Mason Dixon Grass and FretLoose.  My father was a huge part of the Bluegrass community since the 1970's.  Two years ago this March, we lost my father to a long brave battle with cancer.  One of the hardest things for my father during his fight for life was being unable to play his mandolin or participate with his band.  He even had a hard time listening to Bluegrass music, because he was unable to join in.  In his honor and in honor of what Bluegrass has meant to our family, I am having a Bluegrass Benefit.  We will honor those fallen fathers of Bluegrass Music and those who are fighting for their lives.  Danny Paisley and the Southern Grass have agreed to play for the benefit along with many of my father's ex band mates.  All of the net proceeds are going to The Chester County Hospital’s Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania, which was the hospital that took the best care of my father.                  The Benefit is going to be June 7, 2008 it will begin at 2:30 and end at 7:00 p.m. at the Anson B. Nixon Park, in Kennett Square, PA.  My parents moved us to Kennett Square in 1978 from the outskirts of Philadelphia.  My father was born and raised in South Philadelphia so for him to move out of the city was purely for the love of his family.  He continued to commute daily to Philadelphia where he worked for the Bulletin Newspaper, until the day it closed its doors.  My father started with the Bulletin as a paperboy working his way up to lead pressman.  My father later worked for Butts Ticket Company in Cochranville Pennsylvania where he worked until he was no longer able due to his illness.  Butts Ticket Company has been kind enough to donate their time and materials to produce the tickets for this event.                  I was wondering if you could do a story about the Benefit in an attempt to get as much exposure as I can for this charity event.   I believe that this event could really make a difference in many ways.  I have talked with many of the people who remember going to Bluegrass festivals with their children and are looking forward to having one close to home.  I believe that this makes a great story with many great repercussions.  I really just need help spreading the news and letting the public know that this benefit will be the first of many to come.  We could really use any help you could offer in putting it out there.  We are also accepting donation in any form, food, beverages, snacks, basket items for raffle or just your time.  Thank you in advance for anything you can do to help.  Feel free to contact me.  I am attaching the flier, which has all her information.                                                                                               Sincerely,                                                                                             Peggy Haftl-Fanny/phfEncl.
