BALTIMORE, Md. - May 5, 2008 - The Asthma Sinus Allergy Program at Greater Baltimore Medical Center is hosting a free forum on Wednesday, May 21st, 5:30 p.m. to educate community members about asthma and to highlight May as Asthma Awareness Month.

Dr. Alvin Sanico, medical director of ASAP, will speak about "You Can Control Your Asthma." The program is being held in the ASAP suite on the second floor of Physician’s Pavilion North, 6535 N. Charles Street, in Towson.

Light fare and drinks will be served prior to the forum. Space is limited and can be reserved by calling 410-583-8393 or emailing center@asap-gbmc.com.

May is designated as Asthma Awareness Month to raise awareness and educate people about comprehensive asthma management and endorse the efforts of the Global Initiative for Asthma.

Asthma is a serious, life-threatening respiratory disease that affects over 20 million Americans. Rates of asthma have risen sharply over the past 30 years, particularly among children ages 5 to 14. Although there is no cure, asthma can be controlled through medical treatment and management of environmental asthma triggers such as secondhand smoke, dust mites, mold, cockroaches and pests, and household pets.
