  • DWTS 'till next season

Well, it ended as it should have. Kristi was the best....that freestyle number...I would have needed oxygen and probably several ice packs afterwards. She is so athletic and, hey did you notice...she can dance. But, I bet she can't tell you what's happening on "Lost". Can you?

That's where it's at tonight...unless you're watching idol. Root for the rocker.

  • DWTS Final Dances

O.K. This is it. Tonight's final dances very entertaining. I definitely think the outfits and the band deserve 10's!! I also don't know what this show who would be without Tom Bergeron...that guy doesnt miss a beat.

The final two have to be Kristi and Jason. I know, not much of a stretch on my part, but you never know how fans will vote.

Do you think the "Bachelorette" can dance? I think it would help that show.

    -MB 'till tomorrow

  • DWTS the scoop on the stars

Just finished watching Dancing With the Stars from my cozy cube at work. I wonder if Def Leppard ever thought they'd be background music for ballroom dancing.

So I thought, for sure, Cristian would gracefully bow out. How 'bout that? He stays with a ruptured tendon and Shannon and Derek are out. Mario lives....yeah! He said his brother (from Baltimore) is coming to visit him in L.A. next week and he was hoping he'd still be in the game. Look for bro in the audience next week.

I was there last week and got a fun perspective on the energy that goes into putting on this live (most of the time) show. Some of the music acts are pre-taped earlier in the afternoon.

Most people have asked me..."Is Jason Taylor not adorable?", "Is Marissa as nice as she seems?", "Did you get to see Priscilla in person?" yes, yes, and no. After the show, the stars were still pretty enthusiastic even though most of them seemed exhausted! I got most of my "inside" info. from their publicists during the commercial breaks while we were watching them perform.  They gossip a little about their clients. I heard one star cried six times that day (Shannon) and another was refusing to answer questions about the judge's low scores (Marlee).

The entire show is produced on a huge CBS lot in a warehouse type building, on a stage right next to American Idol. Same exec. producer for both: Nigel Lythgoe. He parks his Bentley smack between both sets. It's good to be Nigel.

And tonight it's good to be home.

more on DWTS to come. -MB

  • One Day in LA

How do you know you're not in Baltimore anymore? The palm trees and the fact that your hotel clerk is looking for an agent.

    "Dancing with the Stars"

O.K., so I got to take a spin on the DWS dance floor last night. Pretty cool! Some surprises: the actual stage and floor...much smaller than you might think and the first people I talked with in the audience were from Annapolis. (more about them at a later date)

The stars and the dancers are tiny!! I mean, you know, hold up your pinky finger. That's how big they are.

Everyone very nice...it's kind of a family atmosphere. The audience gets really dolled up and there's a sense that anything can happen. It really is one of the few truly "live" experiences on network TV. Tonight, I head back to stage 46 (which is actually a CBS soundstage...American Idol stage is right next door) and we have the outcome of last nights dances. I think Mario will survive.

I'll keep you posted. Right now I'm going to enjoy the sunshine and glam or Hollywood.

  • Mary Beth Meets Mario

On "Dancing with the Stars" last night, there seemed to be more heat off the dance floor than on. All the couples participated in the first group dance. Olympic skater Kristi Yamaguchi got this season's first perfect score.

We learned about a possible romance between contestant Shannon Elizabeth and her partner Derek. And Baltimore native and singer Mario earned his best score of the season but one of the judges thought Mario and his partner Karina Smirnoff's routine was a little racy. Mario said they actually held back and he was glad he didn't rip his partner's top off.

  • Mary Beth Visits the Dancing with the Stars Set

Mary Beth MarsdenThis morning Mary Beth boarded a plane headed for Hollywood. She's going to be in the studio while tonight's episode is taped.

Her plane is set to land in Los Angeles at 1pm Eastern Time, and she'll go right to the Dancing with the Stars studio. Check back here on Mary Beth's blog to read more about her trip.

Mary Beth will be sending us pictures, and writing about the people she meets in Hollywood. She'll be interviewing some of the start before tonight's show, and tomorrow she'll be able to talk to the person who gets voted off.
