Great Expectations: Community Baby Shower

On Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 1:30PM, Solid Rock IMG will host Great Expectations: A Community Baby Shower and Workshop at the Bridges Community Development Center (8379 Piney Orchard Parkway) in Odenton, MD. This event is open to the public and free for new and expectant parents with children under 1 year of age.

The idea of a community baby shower first occurred to Solid Rock IMG Executive Director, Miss LaChelle Carter, in 2009. "With so many military and new families in the area and away from family and friends, I realized there was a need for a coming together and reaching out to provide information about community resources. The community shower provides the opportunity to fill the role of that absent family and for new and expectant mothers to form support groups" said Miss Carter.

Solid Rock IMG expects at least 100 new and expectant parents to attend and the organization is still seeking more sponsors to make this event a success.

"Everyone is struggling these days and when you are a new or expecting parent it is easy to get overwhelmed. The Community Baby Shower, with the help of various Maryland organizations, sponsors and volunteers, and organized by Solid Rock IMG, will be able to provide resources, guidance, and gifts, so that the children might enjoy a better start” said Miss Carter. Although many women will walk away with gifts and prizes, everyone attending will be afforded the opportunity to learn about the amazing life-altering experience motherhood can be and how to best utilize their available resources to give their child a healthier life.

The event runs from 1:30pm - 4:30pm and will consist of workshops led by Anne Arundel County organizations such as Red Cross (infant cpr demonstration), Priority Partners Health Insurance, and the Red Cross on topics such as prenatal care, post-partum depression, breastfeeding, safe sleep, healthy eating, first aid, and health coverage. There will be contests and giveaways of special prizes including car seats, baby supplies, and gift baskets donated by sponsors led by Logistics Systems, Inc., Metro Chair Covers, other area businesses and individuals throughout the community.

Those wishing to pre-register can do so by visiting http://www.danetworkhousing.org/. New and expectant parents wanting to attend must RSVP by January 15, 2009. Free transportation can be arranged for those living in Anne Arundel County. Good Morning and Happy Friday

It's me Mrs Karen from beautiful downtown Belcamp MD, shouting out to all from the Riverside Kleins!!

CRACKERBARREL ROCKS!!!!!! 2 can eat a hardy healthy meal for $20.00 (plus tip and tax). Example: 2 eggs chicken friend steak, grits, hash browns, rolls and ambience.

One good plus is IF you have to wait they have a really cool gift shop with some memorbialia type candies (moon pies..) and local Charles Chips (I remember the chip man coming to the neighborhood and all of the moms would take out their old cans and get a filled one).....yep, they have em there hon!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyhow - have a blessed day and IF you come to the neighborhood on Saturday evening, Mountain Christian is having tailgating and fireworks!!!

I have managed several restaurants in Maryland and have used restaurant consultants called www.therestauranttrainers.com! They provide monthly inspections similar to those of the health department to help us maintain good conditions-they educate us on what needs to be done and even provide professional cleaners and licensed pest control services if necessary! They're awesome! I've used them for 5 years and wouldn't manage a restaurant without them!

If you are in the Essex area, like dining on the water, check out Riverwatch. A friend worked there last year and told me of the chef walking around the kitchen preparing food with his cigarette in his mouth the whole time. Smoking in the kitchen, and no one would confront him about it.

Violence in Baltimore City Schools

It is a hot topic right now here in the Balitmore area, as well as the rest of the country. The cell phone video of a teacher being attacked is as appalling as it is down right scary. How does a classroom full of students not help a teacher who is being attacked?

I admit I wanted to see the cell phone video of the attack once I heard it existed, but then after watching it a few times I said to myself why aren't any of the students helping the teacher.

Why is it that other students were more inclined to pull out their cell phone camera... take the time to push the buttons, set it to record and just watch. Why is it that other students carefully moved objects out of the way to the attack could continue uninterupted?

These are the questions I'd like to see answered. Let's set aside the argument over who started it. In fact lets throw that right away! This is a teacher who appears to have lost control of her classroom, and also appears have been victimized.
